Functional medicine takes into account each person’s unique needs and circumstances rather than a one size fits all approach. It looks at how different systems of the body such as the digestive system, hormonal and immune system work together and when one system is out of balance it can affect the others. The importance of lifestyle and environmental factors are at the forefront of functional medicine. Stress, exposure to toxins, poor diet, and sedentary lifestyles can contribute to chronic and preventable diseases. Functional medicine addresses these factors and gets to the root of the cause rather than treating each symptom individually. The benefits of functional medicine can lead to better outcomes, improve quality of life and offer a more sustainable approach to healthcare. Reducing amount of medications and improving nutrition and lifestyle can also help to save money in prescriptions and healthcare costs.
